Official Document Translation for Relocating Nurses

Thinking of working in Ireland as a nurse? Clarity are here to help you with your document translations!

Translating Documents for Relocation

The first step in relocation planning is registering with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). As part of this registration process you will need certified translations of your certificates/documents/ID’s, etc. The NMBI requires applicants to provide certified an English translation of any document which is not written in English.

Translation requirements:

  • The translation must be carried out by an official qualified translator.
  • The translator must confirm, in the English language, that the translation is an exact translation of the original document.
  • Each page of the translation must be signed, stamped and dated by the translator, and include the translator’s professional contact details (telephone, address and email).
  • The photocopy of the original document must also be stamped by the translator as evidence that they have seen the original document.

When the translator has provided you with the documents, you must email both the translation and the stamped and signed photocopy/scan of the original document as one file to the NMBI. The translator must confirm, in English l, that the translation is an exact translation of the original document. For example, if your birth certificate is not in English, you should send them a certified copy of your birth certificate and a certified English translation of your birth certificate. The translation must be in writing and must include the translator’s professional contact details.

The translation of the original document is not required to be certified by a notary. The photocopy of the original official document itself may need to be certified by a notary.

  • A certified copy is a photocopy which has been certified by an appropriate authority as a true copy of the original. To obtain a certified copy of your document, you must bring your original document(s) to one of the certifying authorities on the following list:
  • Solicitor or Lawyer
  • Notary public
  • Peace Commissioner
  • Justice of the Peace
  • Commissioner for Oaths
  • Post Office (United Kingdom only)
  • An Garda Síochána (Ireland)

The certifying authority must confirm they have seen the original document. They must state their full name and profession, and stamp, sign and date the photocopy of the document. You will then upload the certified copy to your application with MyNMBI.

We encourage applicants to read carefully the NMBI Applicant User Guide.
