Step by Step Guide to Registering as a Nurse with the NMBI

If you plan to having a nursing career in Ireland the first thing you need to do is to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). We've laid out everything you need to know about registering below.

The registration process with the NMBI is set into three different stages:

Stage 1 - Create a personal MyNMBI
Stage 2 - Recognition of Qualification
Stage 3 - Registration & English Test Results

Stage 1 - Create a Profile for MyNMBI

  • Fill in the personal details page
  • Pay €20 fee

Stage 2 - Log into MyNMBI

  • Answer a series of questions to allow for G1/G2/G3 classification (EU Qualified Candidates are under G1)
  • A list of required documents need to be be presented to MyNMBI
  • Submit the required documents
  • Review your personal information provided is correct and accurate
  • Pay the €350 recognition fee

Mandatory Documents:

  • Certificate of Current Professional Status or Certificate of Good Character requested from a regulator in a jurisdiction where you practised
  • Certificate of General System
  • Evidence of Qualifications or Diploma
  • Passport or ID or Proof of indemnity
  • Proof of Professional Experience, download the form in NMBI and send it to your current and previous employer(s).
  • Qualification Form download the form in NMBI and sent to your training institution
  • Transcript of Training with Official transcript of the programme and Programme syllabus requested by the university or institute you trained in

Stage 3 - Registration Process

  • Log into MyNMBI
  • Answer questions related to English language competence
  • Upload evidence of English language competence
  • Answer questions related to your registration application
  • You will be provided with a list of required documents in MyNMBI
  • Submit the required documents
  • Submit a declaration
  • Review your personal details
  • Pay the €145 registration fee
  • European Professional Card Request in EU online portal.
  • English language test IELTS or OET or Evidence of training in English in a NMBI recognised country

You will need a certified English translation of any document which is not written in English provided by any professional translator. The translator must sign a document assuring that the translation is an accurate replica of the original document, and the translation is certified. A notarised translation requires a notary public to witness the certification process.
