A letter of recommendation, or reference letter, is a written letter describing the skills and work experience of a candidate relevant to the position for which the person is applying.
When a candidate applies for a job, he (or she) will need to send one or more reference letters to support his (or her) application. Typically, these letters are written by current or former employers, but can also be written by supervisors, co-workers, and other business professionals who have firsthand knowledge of the candidate's skills.

(A short text about the time the reference person and candidate worked together and why it was a positive experience.)
