CV Personal Statement

The personal statement is one of the most important parts of your CV.

What is a personal statement?
A personal statement is a brief personal summary at the top of your CV that gives you the opportunity to highlight your career goals, relevant skills and experiences and why you are a good candidate for the job you are applying for. The personal statement helps you stand out from the competition.

Structure:

Personal statements should be no longer than 150 or 200 words, which are four or five sentences.
It is important to keep it short, objective and direct to the point.  

What to include?
Your personal statement should include the following topics:

  • Your job title;
  • Your number of years of experience;
  • Your skills and knowledge;
  • Your goals.

Don'ts:

  • Don't copy-paste someone else's personal statement;
  • Don't use cliché sentences;
  • Don't make grammar mistakes;
  • Don't overdo your skills.

Example (Pharmacy):

A highly talented Pharmacist, with over 5 years experience, skilled in community pharmacy and pharmacy management. Experienced in retail pharmacy operation with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Currently searching for a Supervising Pharmacist position to fully utilise my skills and take on more responsibility and expand my career.
