Cambridge Assessment of English (CAE) - C1 exam

All pharmacists who have completed their training outside Ireland and who wish to work in Ireland must meet the language requirements in order to register with PSI.

One of the certificates accepted by the PSI as proof of English proficiency is  the Cambridge Assessment of English (CAE) C1 exam.

Exam format

CAE C1 exam is a thorough test of all areas of language ability, it is made up of four papers:

  • Reading and Use of English (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Writing (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Listening (about 40 minutes)
  • Speaking (15 minutes per pair of candidates)

The Speaking test is taken face to face, with two candidates and two examiners.

Exam dates

There are several dates through the year, basically every month. CAE exam dates for 2020

To find an exam centre where you can to take the English exam, please check the list here and select your country location and the exam (CAE).

All candidates receive a Statement of Results, a separate score for each of the four parts (reading, writing, listening and speaking). The statement of Results is released online, approximately 2 to 6 weeks after the exam depending on the type of exam you took (paper-based or computer-based).

Scores

To be eligible for registration with the PSI you must score:

  • Listening 180 (or higher)
  • Reading 180 (or higher)
  • Writing 180 (or higher)
  • Speaking 180 (or higher)
