5 Tips for Finding Your Next Pharmacy Role

Ireland is a great place to work as a pharmacist. With an average starting salary of €60,000, it places as one of the highest paying countries in the world for pharmacists. Along with attractive benefits, and the ability to impact the community, it proves to be attractive from both a financial and job satisfaction perspective.

Getting to this point, however, is no easy feat. Becoming a pharmacist takes years of hard work, dedication and perseverance. Once you’ve completed your degree, you’re faced with the difficult task of finding the perfect position for you! We’ve made it easy with our top tips below.

Know What Position You Want

One of the main things to consider when job hunting is what career goals you’re looking to achieve and what type of position would help you achieve these. Working in the pharmacy industry opens opportunities for working in the community sector, in hospitals, in the pharmaceutical industry as a researcher.

Once you decide what sector is right for you, you should consider other aspects such as your level of experience, what location you would like to work in, and how many roles are available in that area.

At Clarity Recruitment, we mainly focus on community pharmacy roles. You can find out more about the different types of positions in our blog here.

Research What Jobs Are Available

Before anything else, you should understand what positions are available in the current job market. Ireland always has pharmacy positions available, however you should be aware of what is available before leaving your current role. Vacant positions are updated on the Clarity Recruitment daily, so this is a great place to keep up to date with what options await you.

Using your own personal network is another great way to keep in the know with the latest updates. Linkedin is a great tool for building new connections and may help you find what you’re looking for. Read more about creating a good Linkedin profile here.

An essential part of the job search is making sure your CV is up to date and formatted correctly. Having a great CV can really help you stand out from the crowd when it comes to searching for a pharmacy role.

Some of our tips for creating a great CV would be:

  • Always start with your name and contact details
  • Always list your work experience starting with your most recent role
  • Use the font Arial, Times New Roman or Calibri in size 12 as this looks professional and is easy to read.
  • Pay attention to spelling, grammar and punctuation.
